After earning All State and All-America honorable mention honors for basketball at Warren High School in Michigan in 1964 I attended the University of Detroit (NCAA Division I) on an athletic scholarship for basketball. I was a 3 year starting guard, became the 11th player in school history to score over 1,000 points and was inducted into the University of Detroit’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1986. I was also a starting pitcher on the University’s baseball team for two years.
Boards of Directors, Trade Associations, and Government Testimony
- Served multiple terms on the American Public Transit Association Board of Directors.
- Served on the Board of Directors of the American Passenger Rail Car Company.
- Served on the Board of Directors of the Railway Progress Institute, including as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Passenger Rail Committee.
- Served on the Board of Directors of numerous local charities, civic organizations, and government planning agencies, e.g. United Way, Urban League, and the Metropolitan Planning Organizations in St. Louis, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Detroit.
- I have testified before the U.S. Congress on funding legislation impacting transit, Amtrak, high speed rail, Buy America Legislation, Americans with Disabilities Act, and industry technology, research and development initiatives.
- I have made numerous presentations before state legislatures including Michigan, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas, California, and Missouri.
